TALCHUM, the theatrical mask dance of Korea

Talchum is a theatrical dance of Korea with a very ancient history going back to the 9th century at least. This art mixes dance with singing, acting and improvisation. There are in fact thirteen Talchum dances which have been recognized together by UNESCO in 2022 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (lien externe).

The art today

Talchum is performed yearly in and outside of Seoul. There is also the famous Andong Mask Dance Festival to which we organize 2-day trips. And if you feel like trying for yourself Talchum, check out our try-out experience in Seoul.
